PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 19, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- American Law Institute Continuing Legal Education (ALI CLE) is pleased to announce the 45th annual conference on Legal Issues in Museum Administration. This year's program will be held Wednesday – Friday, March 29-31, 2017 in Dallas at the historic Belo Mansion and Pavilion.
"For more than four decades, this cosponsored program has been the premiere legal conference for museum attorneys, administrators, registrars and others involved in the day-to-day administration of museums" said Co-Chair Virginia Gomez of the Smithsonian Institution. Attendees can expect crucial updates on tax and legislative efforts impacting their institutions, as well the effects of recent court cases on museum operations. This year's program will also cover trends in employment law including employee classification issues and the tax treatment of non-resident aliens. Other practical topics in this year's program include:
- The Legal Challenges that Museums Present as Neighbors
- In-Kind Gifts: Valuation, Recognition, and Thorny Intellectual Property Issues
- Museum Investment Practices
- Conservation and Other Legal Issues for Registrars
- Special Loan Issues: When Your Lender is Someone Else's Borrower and Other Surprises
- Private Collectors and Public Museums
- Dealing with Federal Entities and Requirements
- External Threats to the Museum: Terrorism, Active Shooters, and Open Carry Laws
"The course offers a well-balanced mix of legal and practical advice presented by outstanding faculty. The opportunity to hear from experts in the field and to network with colleagues from museums across the country inspires participants and faculty to return year after year to this outstanding conference," said Co-Chair Lauryn Guttenplan from the Smithsonian Institution.
There will be two evening networking receptions for faculty and registrants to attend after the daily sessions. The first reception on March 29th will be at the Nasher Sculpture Center, which is located in the Dallas Arts District. Nasher's galleries are internationally known for its worldly collection of modern and contemporary sculpture. The second reception will be held on March 30th at the Dallas Museum of Art. The Dallas Museum of Art has one of the largest collections in the world with over 23,000 works of art spanning 5,000 years.
