PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- American Law Institute Continuing Legal Education and the Environmental Law Institute are pleased to announce Clean Water Act: Law and Regulation, November 17 – 18, 2014 in Washington, D.C.
Much has been achieved in protecting the nation's waterways and wetlands since the Clean Water Act (CWA) was passed in 1972. However, as federal and state agencies seek to tackle the most intractable water quality problems, the greatest challenges remain.
This advanced-level program is more than an update on current developments; it brings together cutting-edge issues in water law and examines them in an integrated fashion. A top-flight faculty, including senior public officials from federal and state/local regulators and enforcement agencies, private practitioners, scientists, academics, and public interest advocates, provide in-depth legal analyses, key policy perspectives, and insights on the future of this sacred resource. This year's program features a keynote address by Ken Kopocis, Deputy Assistant Administrator, Office of Water, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Highlights include an optional introductory lecture, which provides less experienced practitioners, or those needing a refresher, with grounding in the basic substantive law and practice issues. The course also includes a full hour on professional responsibility issues and ethics concerns in the water law practice context.
"The CWA was passed more than 40 years ago with the goal of protecting our nation's waters, yet the law is anything but settled. Given that the CWA and its regulatory programs affect not only our natural environment but also so many sectors of our national economy, a strong understanding of the law and the latest regulatory developments is a 'must have' for today's environmental attorneys and clean water professionals. This course aims to do just that," said program chair Rachel Jean-Baptiste, Environmental Law Institute, Washington, D.C.
