Alfaguara To Publish Two Posthumous Works By Carlos Fuentes

MIAMI, May 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Alfaguara, an imprint of PRISA Ediciones, will make available two never before published books by Carlos Fuentes: Personas and Federico en su balcon. Personas, which will be available in the United Sates in august, is a memoir in which the author writes about different characters he met and who influenced his life and work. Some of these characters include Luis Bunuel, Francois Mitterrand, Andre Malraux, Jesus de Polanco, Pablo Neruda, Julio Cortazar, Arthur Miller, Simone Weil, Susan Sontag and Maria Zambrano.

The novel Federico en su balcon, where Fuentes sets forth a dialogue with the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, will be published by Alfaguara in early 2013. Federico en su balcon begins when Dante Loredano, the author's reflection, engages in a dialogue with his balcony neighbor- Frederich (Federico in Spanish) Nietzsche- and allows himself to be guided by this cicerone- as his homonym from The Divine Comedy- through sordid and passionate circles of a city lit by a violent social revolution opposing the oligarchy of economic and military power.

In the last title printed in the United States, La gran novela Latinoamericana (Alfaguara, 2011), Carlos Fuentes proposes an exciting journey through the evolution of the Latin American novel—an expedition that spans over six centuries, from the discovery of the Americas to this day. Those who embark on this trip will come across the greatest Latin American literary figures, their constant themes, and the penchant to cannibalize and "carnivalize" history to create literary and artistic forms that come together paying no regard to rules or genres. Carlos Fuentes was born in 1928. A renowned intellectual and one of the foremost exponents of Mexican narrative, his vast body of work includes novels, short stories, plays, and essays.
