Alexian Brothers Ranked Among the Nation's Best-Performing Health Systems
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill., June 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Alexian Brothers Health System has been ranked among the nation's best-performing health systems based on measures of clinical quality and safety. Thomson Reuters, the world's leading independent source of hospital performance data, named Alexian Brothers Health System to the list of the 50 top health systems who consistently out perform their peers by providing better care, following standards of care more closely, saving more lives, creating fewer patient complications, making fewer patient safety errors, and earning better overall patient satisfaction scores.
The second annual "100 Top Hospitals: Health System Benchmarks Study" examines data from several public sources, including the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and HCAHPS patient survey scores. Thomson Reuters researchers analyzed the quality and efficiency of 255 health systems and found statistically significant differences between top and bottom performers in several key areas.
"This recognition as a Best Performing System is confirmation of Alexian Brothers Health System's dedication to providing care that is of the highest quality, patient centered and efficient," said Diana Woytko, Vice President, Patient Safety and Quality for Alexian Brothers. "These outcomes have been accomplished through the efforts of our employees, medical staff and leadership teams to maintain a culture of safety, implement evidence based care and reduce health care associated harm."
Thomson Reuters assessed all U.S. health systems with two or more short-term, general, non-federal hospitals. Researchers looked at five metrics that gauge clinical quality and efficiency: mortality, medical complications, patient safety, average length of stay and adherence to clinical standards of care based on core measures. According to Thomson Reuters, the study sets national benchmarks for quality and efficiency and extends transparency regarding the performance of health care organizations. The study was published in Modern Healthcare, the top 50 health systems represent the top 20 percent of the systems studied.
