Perez is a seasoned international business and tax attorney who counsels domestic and international companies as well as high net worth individuals. His broad background includes matters relating to finance, litigation, mergers and acquisitions, and cross-border transactions.
Perez points to two primary factors behind his decision to join Burleson – the firm's depth of services and its ability to attract and retain some of the best and brightest lawyers in the industry.
"Since opening its San Antonio location in 2010, Burleson has quickly become one of the leading energy law firms in the region – and throughout the nation," he explained. "Its attorneys have impressive backgrounds. Their depth of knowledge and strong commitment to delivering the highest quality, most comprehensive legal services is a critical asset to clients both in and out of the oil and gas industry."
Rick Burleson, managing partner of Burleson, said, "Alex is a highly regarded attorney whose capabilities run the gamut, from complex litigation to simple transactions between businesses. His understanding of tax law – combined with his impressive reputation for delivering practical, sophisticated counsel – is one of the many reasons why we're proud to have him as a managing partner."
Prior to joining Burleson, Perez was a shareholder at Cox│Smith. His background includes advising clients on international commercial transactions, U.S. inbound and outbound tax issues, and matters relating to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. He is well versed in partnership tax concerns, debt offerings, and estate planning, and has represented clients in tax litigation before a range of entities, including the IRS, the U.S. Tax Court, and the U.S. District and Appellate Courts.
In addition to serving as an adjunct professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio, Perez is a Director of the U.S.-Mexico Bar Association, belongs to the Asociacion de Empresarios Mexicanos, and is highly involved in the American Bar Association and the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University in Indiana, a law degree from St. Mary's University School of Law in Texas, and a Master of Laws degree from New York University School of Law.
