LAS VEGAS, Nov. 11, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Alcatel-Lucent's (Euronext Paris andNYSE: ALU) IPTV Micro-Architecture solution designed for underserved smaller local and regional markets garnered a TelcoTV Vision Award in the "Most Innovative Middleware" category at TelcoTV 2010, the largest video conference and expo focused on the U.S. service provider market.
The TelcoTV Vision Awards recognize the most innovative and "visionary" new products, services, and applications announced in the communications industry in the past year. The finalists were determined by a distinguished panel of industry executives and analysts.
Alcatel-Lucent's Micro-Architecture is a turnkey, compact IPTV solution powered by Microsoft® Mediaroom, that is designed to cost-effectively support networks of between 1,000 and 100,000 set-top-boxes in a single rack. The solution not only provides high-quality television programming, but also enables new consumer media services through the blending and personalization of web and broadcasting content. This full featured IPTV Solution is designed to meet the cost requirements of regional communication service providers (CSPs) who serve local and regional markets around the world.
"Aimed specifically at smaller local and regional network operators, our new Micro-Architecture solution is a substantially modified version of an existing solution that Alcatel-Lucent has previously deployed in more than 25 large networks globally," said Geeta Chaudhary, Vice President of Multimedia Integration Services at Alcatel-Lucent. "We designed this optimized IPTV offering so that it is pre-integrated and lab tested, minimizing the technical and commercial risks associated with launching IPTV services. We estimate that more than 11 million new IPTV subscribers will be served by regional communication service providers in the coming three years and this compact release is designed to help our customers better address this huge opportunity."
The IPTV Micro-Architecture supports Alcatel-Lucent's Multimedia strategy, which is focused on providing an enriched multi-media experience for end users, driving subscriber growth, customer retention and new revenues.
