Alcatel-Lucent strengthens the critical communications network of Dallas
IP/MPLS and packet microwave radio technology will dramatically improve the response capability of emergency and municipal services in America's ninth largest city
PARIS, Nov. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris andNYSE: ALU) is to enhance the responsiveness of emergency services and other municipal departments of the City of Dallas by deploying an IP (Internet Protocol)-based packet microwave radio network.
The new network will provide highly resilient and secure data transmission capabilities to support critical services for more than 1.2 million residents in Dallas, the ninth largest city in the United States.
Importantly, the network will support the existing land mobile radio (LMR) communications system used by personnel in the city's police and fire departments, as well as municipal public works employees. The network will also provide high-speed, high-capacity data connections between various city facilities, enabling enhanced voice and data communications for applications such as unified communications, video surveillance and SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition).
In support of this project Alcatel-Lucent is deploying its 9500 Microwave Packet Radio (MPR), along with the 7705 Service Aggregation Router (SAR) to manage Ethernet, TDM and video services at each microwave site enabling a smooth migration to all IP. The new network will be managed end-to-end by the 5620 Service Aware Manager (SAM) network manager.
Alcatel-Lucent is also providing a full suite of professional services including network design and engineering, frequency planning and licensing, tower construction, installation and commissioning and field maintenance.
Key Facts:
- The City of Dallas will be deploying Alcatel-Lucent's 9500 MPR, 7705 SAR, TSM 8000 and 5620 SAM to support the city's land mobile radio system for public safety and other municipal services, and to interconnect various city government facilities.
- This replaces an older microwave system, providing true broadband capacity that is future-ready to support eventual deployment of more advanced P25- and LTE-based radio system.
- The new microwave and IP/MPLS network will help support critical services for more than 1.2 million Dallas residents.
- The Alcatel-Lucent technology is delivering substantially higher speed and capacity, using less radio spectrum through patented packet-booster technique while guaranteeing mission critical traffic gets delivered on time.
