DETROIT, Jan. 16, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Alcantara®, the Italian-made luxury material, is featured on a variety of production models, concept cars, light trucks and crossover utility vehicles showcased at this year's North American International Auto Show in Detroit (Jan. 14-22).
Audi's Q8 Concept vehicle and the 2018 Audi SQ5 TFSI are making their world premieres at the Detroit show dressed in Alcantara. The Q8 Concept, essentially a restyled plug-in hybrid Q7 with a 333 hp engine and 100kW electric motor, uses Alcantara extensively on its headliner, door panels and seating. The SQ5 TFSI, a sportier turbocharged version of Audi's popular Q5 crossover utility, has front and rear door panels in contrasting grey Alcantara. The Audi RS7 is fitted with seats in a combination of grey Alcantara and leather with a honeycomb pattern and blue stitching on armrests and floor mats.
At Lincoln, Alcantara also is a defining feature of the Lincoln Continental Black Label's Rhapsody theme. Alcantara covers the seats and headliner featuring a unique perforation pattern, lending style as well as function to the Lincoln Continental brand.
Alcantara's rugged wear characteristics also make it suitable for use in light trucks. Ford, for example, chose Alcantara for the front and rear seating on the Lariat SuperCrew F150 being shown in Detroit. The truck's seats feature black perforated Alcantara with red backing and red contrast stitching accented with red leather. The F150 is North America's best-selling vehicle. For 2017 Ford pickups continue to offer V6, turbocharged V6 and V8 engines with a new 3L diesel announced for the 2018 model year.
Other car makers showcasing vehicle interiors with Alcantara at the Detroit show include:
- Alfa Romeo compliments its Giulia Quadrifoglio with multiple uses of Alcantara on front and rear seating surfaces, as well as for the car's steering wheel.
- Acura picked Alcantara seats to convey luxury in its entry-level Acura ILX sedan.
- Dodge accentuates the interiors of many of its vehicles with dark grey Alcantara seating materials, including Challenger, Challenger R/T, the MOPAR Challenger Shakedown, Charger Daytona, and Viper GT. Sister brand Chrysler also uses medium grey Alcantara for the seats in its 300S.
- Abarth makes use of Alcantara on the dashboard, manual shift boot and handbrake cover for its 124 Spider.
