LOS ANGELES, Nov. 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Alcantara was a contributing partner at several recent cinema events celebrating Italian excellence and creativity in Los Angeles.
Cinema Italian Style 2016 featured a red-carpet screening of Italy's official Oscar submission for Best Foreign-Language Film, "Fire At Sea" from writer-director Gianfranco Rosi. Winner of this year's Berlin International Film Festival's Golden Bear Award, "Fire at Sea" has been described by Meryl Streep as "a daring hybrid of captured footage and deliberate storytelling."
Also showcased during the 10-day event was "Franca: Chaos & Creation" by Francesco Carrozzini, a documentary dedicated to the director's mother, Vogue Italia's Editor-in-Chief Franca Sozzani. The film highlights her groundbreaking coverage of the fashion industry, while also exploring the relationship between Sozzani and Carrozzini as mother and son. The film was first shown in September at the 73rd Venice International Film Festival.
Held November 14-23 at the Egyptian Theatre, the 12th edition of Cinema Italian Style was produced by Luce Cinecittà and American Cinematheque under the auspices of the Consulate General of Italy in Los Angeles with support from the Italian Ministry of Culture. As part of its support for the program, Alcantara upholstered the theatre's more than 600 seats in luxury blue-navy Alcantara®.
Alcantara has cultivated strong relationships with artists and designers, as well as international museums, over the years.
"Cinema Italian Style 2016 represented an extraordinary occasion for Alcantara to strengthen its ability to master all the realities of contemporary lifestyle, from fashion to automotive and from high-tech to interior design, always combining tradition and innovation under the banner of our authentic 'Made in Italy' brand," said Andrea Boragno, Alcantara's Chairman and CEO.
He added that "Alcantara shares an affinity for elegance, style and beauty thanks in part to our privileged, long-lasting relationship with the world of design, cinema and the arts in general."
Alcantara also was a recent partner at the 30th Annual American Cinematheque Awards Gala held in Los Angeles at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in October.
