Alameda Point Developer Launches New Web Site to Give Public Real-time Access to Project Documents
New Web site allows residents to follow progress between City and developer
ALAMEDA, Calif., March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of SunCal's (SCC Alameda Point, LLC) efforts for a new level of open communications with Alameda Point's redevelopment partner – the Alameda community – the developer has debuted a new Web site at SeeAlamedaPoint.com that gives the public real-time access to the project's latest documents and updates.
To increase public understanding of the complex Alameda Point Optional Entitlement Application (OEA) documents, City Councilmembers and SunCal representatives agreed to release a summary that is clear and easily accessible to Alameda citizens. In keeping with its promise to rebuild trust with the community, SunCal has used the latest technology to create a virtual platform, SeeAlamedaPoint.com, to disseminate Alameda Point news, provide previously confidential development documents and relay SunCal community event information. The new Web site also provides a forum for community feedback. Visit www.SeeAlamedaPoint.com to view the newly released Alameda Point OEA.
Included in the OEA presented to the City on Monday, March 22, are a revised Alameda Point Development Agreement and Alameda Point Master Plan. These documents and more are available on the Web site.
SunCal redrafted the OEA in its best efforts to embody the city vision. Specifically, the City asked for, and SunCal delivered, a Master Plan in compliance with Measure A. In this Master Plan, the number of residences has been reduced and the total commercial square footage has been substantially increased. This new economic activity will result in thousands of new jobs for local construction trades that are based throughout the Bay Area. SunCal and the Bay Area labor unions recently entered into a project labor agreement that applies to the construction of this master-planned community in the years ahead.
"We believe the best way to build trust is to give the public real-time access to our documents as we work with the City over the coming months," said SunCal Chief Operating Officer Frank Faye. "We look forward to working in partnership with the City of Alameda to create a sustainable, pedestrian-friendly, mass-transit oriented development plan. We humbly accept the chance to work in step with the community and deliver a visionary plan which will benefit the City of Alameda."
"This is the first time a Web site has been used to give citizens a chance to see the details of the plan as we work with the City," said SunCal's Sr. Vice President of Public Affairs David Soyka. "We have heard community requests for greater participation, so we have included a Twitter link with daily updates. We encourage the public to log on and tell us what you think."
