BALTIMORE, Nov. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- RLTV, the only cable network that provides information and entertainment that helps Redefine Life after 50, announced today that Al Roker will be a celebrity guest volunteer on "Good Food, Good Deeds," a half-hour series combining the excitement of a cook-off with the life-saving mission of one of America's most extraordinary philanthropic organizations, Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA). The episode featuring Al Roker will air on December 22, 2011 at 8:00 PM (EST).
"Good Food, Good Deeds not only reinforces the importance of a nutritious diet for those over 50, but also shines the spotlight on a vital issue affecting more and more seniors—that of senior hunger," said Elliot Jacobson, Senior VP Programming and Production, RLTV. "Al Roker is the ideal celebrity guest as he will inspire our audience and underline our commitment of presenting issues that are crucial to the vitality of our viewers."
Co-hosted by TV icon Florence Henderson and acclaimed nutritionist Joy Bauer, each episode of "Good Food, Good Deeds" begins with Florence and Joy having fun in their kitchen, cooking a delicious and nutritious meal. Joy plans each menu, offering guidance on which foods to buy and which to avoid—serving up meals that are tasty and easy to prepare.
The focus then turns to a celebrity guest, who experiences the fast-paced, inspiring, and fulfilling work of a Meals On Wheels volunteer. Al Roker will learn firsthand the challenges of preparing hundreds of meals and delivering them on deadline, as he pitches in at a local MOWAA chapter in New York City.
"Cooking good, healthy food is a passion of mine and making sure nobody goes hungry is another," said Al Roker. "I'm pleased to be working with the committed volunteers at Meals on Wheels to prepare and deliver warm meals to hungry New Yorkers."
The Merck Company Foundation is the title sponsor of the first season of "Good Food, Good Deeds."
