Al Jazeera America Celebrates Award-Winning Journalism with Final Days of Coverage
Programming to Feature New Content and "Best of" Moments that Capture Highlights from the Past Two and a Half Years
NEW YORK, April 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Al Jazeera America, the award-winning U.S. news channel that has brought independent, in-depth domestic and international news to American audiences, today announced special programming that will culminate its final days of broadcasting.
"Your Stories" to Air throughout Final Week of Coverage
Beginning Friday, April 8th at 7:00 am ET and continuously through Al Jazeera America's last day on April 12th, the channel will air new content and highlights from the key moments that defined the channel, under the theme "Your Stories." Al Jazeera America shows, including the news hours, America Tonight, On Target with Ali Velshi, TechKnow, Fault Lines, Inside Story and others, will each feature curated content to celebrate the channel's last days on the air. This includes special programming highlighting themes that defined the channel's reporting: social justice, immigration and refugees, issues of race, global conflict, climate change, celebration of humanity and others. Al Jazeera America will also provide updates on some of the channel's ongoing investigations and the fascinating and thought-provoking people profiled.
"We're marking our final week on the air by featuring our team's exceptional work, with shows and content that exemplify the truly outstanding journalism that has set us apart," said Kate O'Brian, President of Al Jazeera America. "We have time and time again given voices to those across America whose stories would not have been told in such depth without the attention of our reporters. We are incredibly grateful to our audience in the U.S., and we are deeply proud of the coverage Al Jazeera America has brought to them."
"The Limits of Hope: Inside Obama's White House": four-part documentary begins tomorrow night
Beginning tomorrow night, April 7th, at 10:00 pm ET and continuing nightly at that time through Sunday, April 10th, Al Jazeera America will air the four-part new documentary series, "The Limits of Hope: Inside Obama's White House," co-produced with Brook Lapping and the BBC. The series gives viewers an authoritative, insiders' account of Obama's White House, featuring an exclusive interview with President Obama and providing access to the President's top advisers as they re-live the conversations that happened when momentous decisions were made.
Farewell Retrospective on April 12th
On Al Jazeera America's last day of programming on Tuesday, April 12th, 2016, the channel will air a three-hour, live farewell feature beginning at 6 pm ET (and repeated at 9 pm ET) including contributions from Al Jazeera America journalists who worked with the channel since its launch in 2013 and the subjects of many of their reports.
"I'm very proud to have worked with the remarkable team at Al Jazeera America, and I appreciate their commitment to delivering independent, in-depth, trusted news," said Al Anstey, CEO of Al Jazeera America.
