Akron-Canton Airport Celebrates Busiest February Ever, Beating Record from 2006
11th consecutive record-breaking month
GREEN, Ohio, March 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- February 2012 may have been a short month but it was huge for Akron-Canton Airport (CAK). Marking the busiest February in history, passenger traffic surged with a 23 percent increase compared to 2011. For the month, 128,300 passengers flew in/out of CAK. That figure surpasses our last best February (2006) by 20,975 passengers. It also marks the 11th record-breaking month in a row for CAK. Year to date passenger traffic is up 18 percent compared to the first two months of 2011.
Passenger traffic was up on all airlines. AirTran Airways, offering nonstop service to Orlando, Tampa, Ft. Myers, Atlanta, New York, Boston and Milwaukee (new service to Denver commences June 2, 2012 and Chicago Midway starts August 12, 2012), increased 24 percent compared to February 2011 carrying 65,000 total passengers. Frontier Airlines with nonstop flights to Denver was up a whopping 74 percent compared to last year. Delta, flying to Atlanta and Detroit, was up 30 percent. US Airways, with flights to Charlotte, Philadelphia and Washington D.C. (Reagan), increased by 17 percent. United Airlines with nonstop flights to Chicago O'Hare had an increase of 7 percent.
