Akerman Continues Accelerated Growth in New York with Team of Litigators
Firm Bolsters National Strength in Financial and Insurance Litigation
NEW YORK, Feb. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Akerman LLP, a top 100 U.S. law firm serving clients across the Americas, today announced the continued expansion of its New York office with a team of litigators, Frederick Reif and Debra Tama. The team joins Akerman's Litigation Practice Group as partners a week after Akerman opened its Chicago office – the 20th in the United States – with eight lawyers, including commercial and intellectual property litigators.
"We are pleased to welcome Fred and Debra to Akerman," said James Miller, chair of Akerman's Litigation Practice Group. "These talented lawyers broaden our ability to serve clients in key international business centers and enhance our strengths in financial and insurance litigation."
Reif brings more than 25 years of practice representing and counseling a broad range of European entities in connection with litigation and arbitration in the United States. His clients include insurers, reinsurers, manufacturers, and financial service providers. He also is a frequent contributor to German legal and industry publications.
Tama focuses her practice on the representation of European insurers, reinsurers, manufacturers, and other entities in litigation and other forms of dispute resolution in the United States. She handles products liability defense, first and third-party insurance disputes, and other complex litigation.
Reif and Tama are the most recent team of lawyers to join Akerman's New York office. The firm previously welcomed labor and employment lawyers, Matthew Steinberg and Samantha Abeysekera, and a group of commercial litigators, including David Bayne, Jim Maloney, and Steven Cordero. Most recently, antitrust litigator Richard Brosnick and real estate lawyer Steven Bloom joined Akerman's New York office, as well as Jeremy Shure with Akerman's Emerging Companies Practice.
New York continues to be Akerman's fastest growing market. Lawyer headcount within the office increased by 34 percent in 2013. As a result of Akerman's anticipated growth, the New York office moved to a larger space on Fifth Avenue during the same year.
Akerman's Litigation Practice Group is recognized nationally by U.S. News - Best Lawyers in the Commercial Litigation category. The firm's team has vast experience in a wide range of civil and criminal litigation, including actions involving banking, securities, healthcare, insurance, real estate, and construction.
