"Your appointment is a distinct and important element of the OSCE's efforts to combat discrimination and promote tolerance," said Eamon Gilmore, the current OSCE Chair-in-Office. Gilmore is Ireland's Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Rabbi Baker has worked intensively with governments and Jewish communities across Europe on programs and policies to combat anti-Semitism. He has addressed OSCE conferences, and was intimately involved in a ground-breaking OSCE project to train law enforcement on monitoring and countering hate crimes.
"We are proud of Rabbi Baker's contributions to the critical work of the OSCE in combating the scourge of anti-Semitism, and the faith this important intergovernmental organization continues to show for him and his work," said AJC Executive Director David Harris. "By dint of his position, he has a unique opportunity to do something significant about anti-Semitism, awakening and harnessing the concern of OSCE member states."
The OSCE organization's 56 members include the governments of all European and Eurasia countries, Canada and the United States.
