AJC Supports IsraAID Relief Efforts in Nepal
NEW YORK, Aug. 23, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- AJC, the global Jewish advocacy organization, is supporting IsraAID in responding to the devastating floods and landslides that left at least 120 dead and affected over six million people in Nepal.
"Our thoughts are with the people of Nepal and the affected communities as they seek to rebuild after the loss of life and widespread damage," said Shira Loewenberg, director of AJC's Asia Pacific Institute.
AJC has supported IsraAID: The Israel Forum for International Humanitarian Aid over the years in responding to a number of humanitarian crises in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. "IsraAID, our partner, often is one of the first non-governmental groups to reach the site of a disaster, no matter the distance from Israel, and provide urgently needed assistance," said Loewenberg.
The Israeli military also has quickly responded with medical, psychosocial, and sanitation assistance. Nepal is a popular tourist destination, with more than 10,000 Israelis visiting annually.
In April 2015, AJC supported IsraAID teams in Nepal responding to the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake in the country's capital city of Kathmandu.
