NEW YORK, May 21, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- AJC is supporting the efforts of IsraAID, a leading Israeli non-governmental relief organization, to deliver urgent humanitarian assistance to areas in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia devastated by massive floods.
"The damage wrought by the floods is almost unimaginable in its scale and fury," said AJC Executive Director David Harris. "The Jewish tradition commands us to respond generously and compassionately to those in need. We are proud to assist, together with our Israeli partner, IsraAID, in offering a helping hand to the many flood victims in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia."
A team of IsraAID medical, trauma, and relief professionals has been dispatched to the two European countries.
With help from AJC's Heilbrunn Humanitarian Fund, AJC has partnered with IsraAID humanitarian relief missions in a number of crises, including Sri Lanka after the unprecedented South Asian tsunami in 2004, Peru following a devastating earthquake in 2007, the Philippines after a deadly tropical storm in 2009, Haiti following the massive earthquake in 2010, a typhoon in the Philippines in 2013, and Syrian refugees in Bulgaria last year.
