AJC Provides Support to IsraAID to Assist Israeli Trauma Experts in Jordan
NEW YORK, March 6, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- AJC has announced a grant to support IsraAID in assisting Israeli trauma specialists working with their Jordanian counterparts aiding refugees from Syria. Jordan is housing more than one million Syrians who have crossed the border seeking safety from the four year old civil war.
"We are delighted to support Israelis and Jordanians cooperating to provide much-needed medical relief to refugees from the horrendous conflict," said AJC Executive Director David Harris. "It is our hope that this effort, which brings together Israelis, Jordanians, and Syrian refugees, will help foster greater mutual understanding in a region that would greatly benefit from such increased cooperation in the future."
The AJC funds will cover expenses associated with the training of Jordanian trauma workers aiding Syrian refugees.
With help from AJC's Heilbrunn Humanitarian Fund, AJC has partnered with IsraAID humanitarian relief missions in a number of crises, including:
- Typhoon Hagupit in the Philippines in 2014;
- Humanitarian aid to beleaguered Christian and Yazidi refugees who fled to Iraq's Kurdish region in 2014;
- Bosnia-Herzegovina following massive flooding in 2014;
- Bulgaria for Syrian refugees who sought a safe haven in the country in 2013;
- The Philippines in 2013 after a typhoon;
