AJC Partners with IsraAID to Assist Yazidis in Iraq's Kurdish Region
NEW YORK, Dec. 3, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- AJC is supporting IsraAID, a leading Israeli non-governmental relief organization, in delivering humanitarian aid to Yazidi and other refugees in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
"As American Jews, we are proud to assist, together with our Israeli partner IsraAID, in seeking to improve the conditions for thousands of refugees who have sought shelter and security among Iraqi Kurds," said AJC Executive Director David Harris. "We want the refugees to know that they are not alone, but have concerned and supportive friends across the globe, including in Israel and the U.S."
The AJC funds come ahead of winter's arrival in northern Iraq, and will help provide for the purchase and distribution of blankets, mattresses, and clothes for Yazidi and other persecuted religious refugees who have found refuge in the Kurdish region.
AJC has proudly supported IsraAID: The Israel Forum for International Humanitarian Aid over the years in responding to many humanitarian crises in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
This is the second AJC grant to aid Yazidi refugees. In September 2014, an AJC allocation to IsraAID provided humanitarian aid to beleaguered Christian and Yazidi refugees who had fled to Iraq's Kurdish region to escape from the murderous crosshairs of ISIS.
