AJC Partners with IsraAID to Assist Iraqi Christians, Yazidis
NEW YORK, Sept. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- AJC is supporting IsraAID, a leading Israeli non-governmental relief organization, in delivering urgent humanitarian aid to beleaguered Christian and Yazidi refugees who have fled to Iraq's Kurdish region.
"As American Jews, we are proud to assist, together with our Israeli partner, IsraAID, in offering relief to the thousands of Christian and Yazidi refugees fleeing the brutality of ISIS and seeking shelter among Iraqi Kurds," said AJC Executive Director David Harris. The AJC funds will cover expenses associated with the distribution of hygiene kits, mattresses, blankets, kitchen utensils, and clothing.
With help from AJC's Heilbrunn Humanitarian Fund, AJC has partnered with IsraAID humanitarian relief missions in a number of crises, including Sri Lanka after the unprecedented South Asian tsunami in 2004; Peru following a devastating earthquake in 2007; the Philippines after a deadly tropical storm in 2009; Haiti following the massive earthquake in 2010; the Philippines in 2013 after a typhoon; Bulgaria for Syrian refugees who sought a safe haven in the country in 2013; and, earlier this year, in Bosnia-Herzegovina following massive flooding.
