AJC Joins With IsraAID to Help Victims of Typhoon in Philippines
NEW YORK, Dec. 19, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- AJC has announced a grant to IsraAID, a leading Israeli non-governmental relief organization, to help provide humanitarian aid to the people living in areas of the Philippines devastated by Typhoon Hagupit.
After making landfall on December 6, the typhoon caused massive flooding that has affected more than a million Filipinos. After many families had to be evacuated from their homes, IsraAID is supplying medical help and psychosocial support.
With assistance from AJC's Robert and Harriet Heilbrunn Humanitarian Relief Fund, AJC has partnered with IsraAID relief missions in many crisis situations. A year ago, AJC helped IsraAID efforts in the Philippines following Typhoon Haiyan. Among other recipients of humanitarian aid from AJC earlier this year have been: Bosnia-Herzogovina after massive floods; Ebola victims in Africa; and Iraqi Christians and Yazidis who were forced to flee the terrorist onslaught of Islamic State.
"AJC is proud to continue our tradition of assisting people throughout the world in times of need," said Shira Loewenberg, director of AJC's Asia Pacific Institute. "Our thoughts are with those in the Philippines whose lives and well-being have been affected by the typhoon."
