The main government buildings in Oslo were severely damaged by two massive bombs, leaving at least seven dead. Later, an unidentified man opened fire at a summer camp on the island of Utoeya, where some 600 young people, ages 14-25, were attending Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg's Labour Party youth section annual gathering. At least five more were killed there.
"The scourge of terrorism, as Norway tragically learned today, does not discriminate," said AJC Executive Director David Harris. "Our hearts go out to the Norwegian government and people, as they strive to answer who carried out these vicious and fatal acts of violence against innocents, including young people, and why."
AJC, a global advocacy organization, maintains extensive relations with Norway through Thanks to Scandinavia, an AJC institute.
