AJC: Episcopal Church Rejects BDS Against Israel
NEW YORK, July 2, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- AJC commends the Episcopal Church for rejecting calls for divesting from companies doing business with Israel and for boycotting Israeli products.
The House of Bishops overwhelmingly defeated a divestment and boycott resolution at the Church's 78th General Convention. The action affirms longstanding Episcopal Church positions that rebuff BDS (Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions) as a tool for furthering Israeli-Palestinian peace.
AJC has long supported direct talks between Israelis and Palestinians leading to an enduring two-state solution, and, in that spirit, welcomes interreligious partners who genuinely champion peace for Israelis and Palestinians.
"The Episcopal Church is a significant partner in bringing the Abrahamic faiths together in support of Israeli-Palestinian peace," said Rabbi Noam Marans, AJC Director of Interreligious and Intergroup Relations.
Emily Soloff, AJC Associate Director of Interreligious and Intergroup Relations, attended the Church's General Convention in Salt Lake City as an invited interreligious guest.
