AJC Deplores Deadly Attack at Berlin Holiday Market
BERLIN, Dec. 20, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- AJC deplores the fatal attack at an outdoor holiday bazaar at Breitscheidplatz in central Berlin. Twelve were killed and 50 injured when a truck plowed into the crowded market.
"The purposeful assault on innocent Germans and tourists enjoying the Christmas season celebrations shattered so many lives in a moment. It is yet another attack on our way of life, on our core democratic values of freedom and liberty," said AJC Berlin Director Deidre Berger.
"Our hearts go out to the families of those murdered and we extend best wishes for the recovery of the injured felled by what appears to be the action of a terrorist," Berger said. Authorities detained a man soon after the attack.
"We've seen this horror before in Europe, in France in July, and look forward to learning more details from the German authorities."
