AJC Deplores Attacks on San Antonio Synagogues
DALLAS, Aug. 19, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- AJC is urging San Antonio authorities to apprehend and bring to justice those responsible for attacks on the Jewish community. Congregation Agudas Achim, San Antonio's second-largest synagogue was defaced with anti-Semitic graffiti. Congregation Rodfei Sholom and 30 cars and buildings near the synagogue were similarly vandalized.
"These hateful attacks on our community are painful," said Kim Kamen, Associate Director of AJC Regional Offices. "Jews, indeed all Texans, need to remain vigilant."
Texas Governor Greg Abbott condemned the vandalism, calling it an "offensive and disturbing attack on people of all faiths."
San Antonio Mayor Ivy Taylor this week joined with the mayors of Austin, Dallas and Houston, and other mayors across the United States, in signing the Mayors United Against Anti-Semitism statement, an AJC initiative.
