AJC Delegation Concludes Visit to New Delhi
NEW DELHI, Dec. 15, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- An AJC Asia Pacific Institute (API) leadership delegation just concluded a three-day visit to Delhi. This was the second AJC visit to India this year.
The visit was highlighted by an hour-long meeting with India's National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval.
The delegation, led by AJC President Stanley Bergman, AJC Director of Government and International Affairs Jason Isaacson, and API Director Shira Loewenberg, met with cabinet members and parliamentarians; senior members of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Israeli Ambassador Danny Carmon; and journalists and executives of the Hindi-, English- and Urdu- language media. The delegation also met with top Israeli and Indian businesspeople who were in Delhi for the annual India-Israel Business Forum, which Mr. Bergman co-chairs.
Principal topics discussed during the mission included the U.S.-India relationship, regional political and strategic developments, and growing ties between Israel and India.
"India remains a key friend of the United States and of Israel, and an essential democratic ally in a volatile and threatening world," said AJC Director of Government and International Affairs Jason Isaacson, who has made numerous trips to India on behalf of AJC over the last 20 years. Commenting on next month's second visit to India by President Obama, in celebration of India's Republic Day, and the recently announced planned visit of Indian Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj to Israel, Isaacson said, "The warming and increasingly open relationships among India, American and Israel make sound strategic sense. These three democracies share common concerns and interests, and their growing cooperation benefits global security and stability."
In September, AJC met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New York on the sidelines of the opening of the United Nations General Assembly.
Through its Asia Pacific Institute, led by Shira Loewenberg, AJC has been actively engaged with India for more than 20 years, and maintains close ties with Indian officials and other representatives in Delhi, across the United States, in Israel, and other countries, as well as with leaders of the Indian American community.
