AJC Condemns Taliban Terror Attack in Pakistan
NEW YORK, Dec. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- AJC condemns the Taliban terror massacre of over 120 innocent people, almost all of them children, at a school in Peshawar, Pakistan, and joins the Pakistani nation in mourning the senseless loss of young lives.
The attackers burst into the school guns ablaze, took hostages, and set up explosive devices around the school. One of the terrorists, a suicide bomber, set off his own explosives, killing himself and others, before Pakistani forces brought the situation under control. The government of Pakistan has declared three days of mourning for the victims.
AJC Executive Director David Harris said: "This horrendous crime reminds us once again that Islamic extremism does not just target non-Muslims, so-called 'unbelievers,' but constitutes, as well, a standing threat to the millions of Muslims who practice their faith in a spirit of peace around the world. To defeat terrorism, it is necessary for nations and people of all faiths to reject such violence by reaffirming our common commitment to shared values and by demonstrating the necessary strength and resolve against those who would kill children in Pakistan or, for that matter, take hostages at a café in Australia."
