AJC Condemns Rocket Attacks Against Eilat, Aqaba
NEW YORK, Aug. 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Jewish Committee condemned the shooting of five Grad rockets which struck Israel and Jordan today. A Jordanian man in the city of Aqaba was killed. Four people were injured in the attack. The rockets were fired from within Egyptian territory in Sinai by an as yet unknown group.
"We send our deepest condolences to the family of the Jordanian citizen killed in this heinous attack, and our hope that those injured, both Israeli and Jordanian, will fully recover," said AJC Executive Director David Harris. "This latest attack is yet another telling reminder that moderate countries in the region face the same terrorist threat. Moreover, we count on Egypt, whose territory was apparently used by the terrorists, to do its utmost to prevent future such attacks by those who would do harm to all three countries. It is vital that the Sinai area is properly secured from terrorist groups like Hamas and other jihadi elements, which use Egyptian territory to smuggle weapons and operatives into Hamas-ruled Gaza."
