The Ovum Decision Matrix assessed 19 EFSS vendors based on an execution, technology and market impact. Vendors are assigned into three groups, market leaders, challengers and followers. Additionally, each vendor received a detailed SWOT analysis based on 16 criteria deemed critical for EFSS providers. To be named a market leader, Secure Content Locker earned scores "significantly higher" than the group average of 19 vendors assessed for technology assessment, execution and market impact. Additionally, market leaders demonstrated above-average product features and were determined to be an "enterprise fit" EFSS solution. AirWatch scored above the group average in 11 of the 16 criteria assessed, and earned perfect scores in four criteria: content management, developer, desktop and mobile.
AirWatch Secure Content Locker was also the highest ranked on the technology assessment axis, defined as the functionality made available to the end-user. The SWOT assessment awarded Secure Content Locker as "best-in-show" for production functionality and range of end-user features "that matter to users of computers and mobile devices." Ovum additionally complimented Secure Content Locker's powerful mobile search capabilities of popular file formats, which provides the more advanced user with proximity and "fuzzy" search results. The Ovum SWOT for AirWatch cited a significant opportunity for Secure Content Locker as a relative industry "newcomer" to spark EFSS business innovation.
The report references an Ovum market analysis that found only five percent of employees are using a single EFSS product, which is why AirWatch strategically provides organizations with a central EFSS solution that integrates with more than 35 content repositories. This allows employees to view and collaborate on files stored virtually anywhere via Secure Content Locker. Ovum noted "native content management features complement direct access to third-party document management systems" as one of the AirWatch Secure Content Locker strengths.
"We continue to see accelerated customer adoption for Secure Content Locker, and Ovum's recognition further establishes AirWatch as one of the premiere solution providers for organizations of all sizes, deployment structures and compliance requirements," said John Marshall, senior vice president and general manager, AirWatch by VMware. "With strong positioning from the analyst community, continued innovation for enhanced security and collaboration, and now with access to VMware's network of 75,000 partners and 500,000 customers, Secure Content Locker is well positioned to be the preferred EFSS solution for businesses embracing the mobile-cloud era."
Following the close of the research, AirWatch announced significant feature enhancements, debuted patented watermarking technology for data loss prevention and gained international government security clearance. These innovations enhance secure enterprise collaboration across mobile devices for next generation enterprise mobile management.
