ATLANTA, Sept. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Today at AirWatch Connect™, AirWatch® by VMware, the leading enterprise mobility management (EMM) provider, announced enhancements to AirWatch Mac Management capabilities for OS X®. Key new AirWatch Mac Management features include application management, streamlined staging, interoperability with Apple's Device Enrollment Program and new profile configurations. AirWatch Mac management capabilities are fully integrated within the AirWatch platform and available at the same price point as mobile device management.
More recent OS X software updates extend the ability to manage desktops and laptops with AirWatch as easily as smartphones and tablets in both corporate-owned and bring your own device (BYOD) scenarios. AirWatch can provide a consistent, seamless experience for enterprise mobility management across all devices, including OS X and Windows PC laptops. With AirWatch, IT administrators can decrease the laptop enrollment process from hours to minutes, implement consistent corporate policies across an entire deployment from the single admin console and seamlessly manage virtually all end user devices.
New AirWatch Mac Management features will include:
- Application management to manage, install and remove applications and a self-serviced App Catalog for installing applications and web apps.
- Enhanced compliance policies for automatic escalations and remediation for application, encryption and other compliance priorities.
- Streamlined staging for administrators to quickly enroll the device in AirWatch and configure profiles to allow for faster mass deployments and redistribution.
- Completely redesigned user interface for improved and simplified self-enrollment. End users can easily enroll in AirWatch via email auto discovery.
- Enhanced task automation that allows for advanced file management and scripting capabilities for administrators, including conditions and deployment schedules, custom attribute reporting, uninstall capabilities and an advanced policy engine to check installed status.
- Support for Apple Device Enrollment Program (DEP) mass configurations.
- Additional AirWatch Mac Management profiles, including:
- Global HTTP Proxy to configure the proxy settings for the entire device.
- Advanced Active Directory settings that allow administrators to customize how the Mac will be bound to the domain.
- Settings to prevent the exporting of private keys once the certificate has installed on the device. Administrators can also allow applications to access that certificate for authentication.
"As organizations are seeing a paradigm shift in employees bringing their own laptops into the workforce, we built the AirWatch Mac Management platform to replicate the simplicity of managing smartphones and tablets," said John Marshall, senior vice president and general manager, AirWatch by VMware. "With our Mac management capabilities fully integrated in the AirWatch platform, customers can easily deploy corporate owned laptops or enable bring your own laptop scenarios. Our integrated approach, comprehensive capabilities and competitive pricing differentiate AirWatch from other providers and offers a seamless management experience for IT without interfering with the end-user experience."
AirWatch supports OS versions 10.7 (Lion) and later, and devices running on those operating systems, including MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac mini, iMac and Mac Pro. All features will be available in the upcoming AirWatch console release. These new features will be on demoed during AirWatch Connect Atlanta through Sept. 11.
