SAN ANTONIO, April 25, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Clinicians have used AirStrip® to monitor four million births in the U.S. to date, with another 533,000 births expected to be monitored in 2016. Company officials announced the milestone today using calculations based on usage rates for U.S. AirStrip customers.
More than a decade ago, AirStrip introduced its first mobile application to monitor patients in labor. This year, the first of those babies monitored using AirStrip will turn ten years old. At the same time, the company's core applications have also grown into the enterprise-wide AirStrip ONE® mobile interoperability platform and application, providing clinicians with a single, data- and vendor-agnostic solution to access and share live patient data across the care continuum.
"AirStrip innovations have literally touched millions of lives, and this inspiring milestone is fuel for our next generation of innovations," AirStrip CEO Alan Portela said. "Leveraging third-party tools, AirStrip is now focused on streaming mountains of structured and unstructured patient data in ways that support both prescriptive and predictive analytics."
AirStrip is now rolling out AirStreams™, which leverages the AirStrip ONE platform to deliver live streaming data to health system and third-party analytics platforms capable of generating advanced decision support.* Insights can then be streamed back in near-real-time to AirStrip ONE to address the 'last mile' of clinician actions at the moment of care.
"Putting live patient data in the hands of clinicians anytime and anywhere was just the first step in AirStrip's evolution," Portela noted. "By working with third parties, we endeavor to make the endless streams of patient data actionable at the point of care in ways that can improve outcomes and even predict a downturn in a patient's condition before it actually occurs."
AirStrip's industry-leading offerings in obstetrics also include the AirStrip® Sense4Baby™ wireless maternal/fetal monitoring system, which pregnant patients can use to self-administer non-stress tests (NST) at home with proper clinical training and a care team's interpretation of the data. AirStrip Sense4Baby is now available in the U.S. and internationally, including Australia and New Zealand, ten African countries and 13 European countries.
*Clinical decision support provided outside of AirStrip.
