AIRIS Welcomes Industrial Hygiene Manager
HOUSTON, Dec. 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- AIRIS Wellsite Services is increasing its expertise with the addition of Industrial Hygiene Manager, Justin Lopez, MPH.
"This hire reinforces AIRIS' commitment to protecting and improving the wellsite," remarks AIRIS general manager Santo Petitto. "Adding Justin to the team builds on our proven ability to provide total dust control solutions."
In his role, Lopez's primary concern is exposure to respirable crystalline silica, a serious health hazard found at virtually every frac site without engineering controls. Breathing silica dust can cause silicosis, chronic lung disease and cancer.
Lopez travels to wellsites for assessments, manages data collection and analysis, and serves as liaison to other industrial hygiene professionals. Lopez helps communicate the risks of respirable silica exposure and the solutions that can safeguard workers' long-term health.
"Physicians help one patient at a time. As a Master of Public Health, you're helping an entire population," says Lopez. "I can help impact the health and wellness of an entire company, workforce or industry."
Data Lopez collects will help companies achieve compliance with new, stricter OSHA standards for respirable silica exposure. Along with using current measurement tools, Lopez will be experimenting with new measurement techniques with a goal to pioneer real time exposure surveillance methods.
"AIRIS' customers benefit from our expertise," adds Lopez. "When we're knowledgeable, then our customers are knowledgeable. When they come to us with questions, they can be assured that we've already asked the questions, identified a solution, and have begun working on development."
AIRIS has always prioritized measurable results, doing vastly more documented testing of dust control solutions than either its competitors or the government. New data will allow AIRIS to improve on its patented dust collection technology, already proven to help exploration & production companies achieve total compliance.
Lopez previously worked as a full-spectrum industrial hygienist for Baker Hughes. He earned his Master of Public Health degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. He will be based at AIRIS' Houston office.
