airberlin Joins oneworld Alliance
New Relationship Will Expand Route Network and Offer More Services and Benefits to Customers
FORT WORTH, Texas, March 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- In celebration of airberlin's inauguration into the oneworld® alliance today, members of the American Airlines AAdvantage® program can earn double miles every time they fly an eligible fare on airberlin between March 20 and May 15, 2012. AAdvantage members were already eligible to earn and redeem AAdvantage miles for travel on airberlin, but with it joining the oneworld alliance, travel on airberlin will now count toward qualification for AAdvantage elite status.
The alliance with airberlin, combined with airberlin's affiliate Niki, will expand oneworld's network to more than 800 destinations in more than 150 countries, served by nearly 9,000 daily departures, adding an extensive network in Central and South Europe to the alliance's offerings. airberlin, the second largest airline in Germany, serves 163 destinations in 39 countries and conveniently serves several of American's cornerstone markets, including Los Angeles, Miami and New York.
American and airberlin began codesharing in November 2010 on several trans-Atlantic routes, as well as on U.S. domestic and intra-European flights. Most recently, American and airberlin extended their codeshare relationship to include airberlin's service between New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport and Berlin Tegel Airport. Other current codeshare flights include:
- American's code on airberlin flights in the following markets: Dusseldorf and Berlin – Miami and Dusseldorf – Fort Myers, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
- airberlin's code on American flights between Dallas/Fort Worth and Frankfurt, New York – JFK and Zurich as well as several U.S. domestic flights via American's cornerstone hubs at Los Angeles, Miami, and New York – JFK.
airberlin's entrance into oneworld adds even more travel options for American's customers and adds more cities to American's network through codesharing. New cities include Cologne/Bonn, Dortmund, Dresden, Erfurt, Florence and 45 additional destinations.
