Air Products "Cold Zone" to Highlight Cryogenic Food Freezing and Chilling Solutions at IPPE
LEHIGH VALLEY, Pa., Jan. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- To illustrate Air Products' (NYSE:APD) leadership in cryogenic technology applications, the company is turning its booth into the "Cold Zone" at the International Production and Processing Expo (IPPE) in Atlanta, Ga. from January 28-30. In the "Cold Zone", meat and poultry producers will learn how Air Products' gases, equipment, and expertise can help remove heat from their processes and improve the quality, throughput, and shelf life of their foods.
Air Products will have a team of food specialists on-hand at booth 6565 to discuss with meat and poultry processors how liquid nitrogen and carbon dioxide can benefit their operations. In addition, Executive Chef Austin Yancey will demonstrate the power of liquid nitrogen—one of the world's coldest refrigerants—which rapidly freezes food in minutes. This quick freeze not only contributes to a higher yield but can also allow meat and poultry processors to freeze to order, lessening the need to store large quantities of product. A faster freeze with liquid nitrogen also results in the formation of smaller ice crystals, which causes less damage to a product's cellular structure. This enables food products to maintain moisture, which not only improves quality, texture, color, and flavor, but also translates into smaller weight losses from dehydration.
On display in the "Cold Zone" will be Air Products' Freshline® QS tunnel freezer, an easy-to-operate, quick-start cryogenic freezing system that is ideal for meat and poultry processors who want to convert to continuous freezing, alleviate a bottleneck in their operation, or grow and diversify their existing product line. Other freezing systems available from the company include the highly flexible Freshline® DM freezer, which allows manufacturers to process both IQF (individually quick frozen) and flat or trayed products in a single machine, and the highly efficient Freshline® MP freezer, which incorporates exceptional heat transfer and the latest international hygiene standards.
Air Products has Freshline® solutions for every type of customer, from large manufacturers with multiple product lines to small food processors with a niche product and every operation in between. With food laboratories in the U.S., Europe, and Asia, the company can test a customer's product on commercial-scale equipment to determine the feasibility of using of using cryogenic freezing or chilling for their specific process. Air Products also supplies its industrial gases in a variety of delivery options to match each customer's requirements, from small- to large-volume users.
