Air Products Again Named to Carbon Disclosure Project's Leadership Index
LEHIGH VALLEY, Pa., Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) has recognized Air Products' (NYSE: APD) approach to climate change disclosure and again named the company to its S&P 500 Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index for 2010.
Representing 534 institutional investors with $64 trillion in assets under management, the CDP holds the largest database of corporate climate change information in the world. Its Leadership Index, compiled by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) on behalf of CDP, highlights the constituent companies displaying the most comprehensive approach to corporate governance in climate change disclosure practices.
As a constituent of the S&P 500 Index, Air Products is among the top 10 percent of U.S. leaders in carbon disclosure. The CDP conducted an analysis of responses to its questionnaire, which focused on greenhouse gas emissions, reduction targets, and risks and opportunities associated with climate change. All told, more than 4,700 companies were invited to participate and disclose their climate change strategies.
John E. McGlade, Air Products' chairman, president and chief executive officer, said, "We are honored to be included again in the CDP's S&P 500 Leadership Index. We pride ourselves on operational efficiency in every aspect of our plants and have set aggressive reduction goals for energy and greenhouse gases. There is an ever-increasing need for the energy and environmental technology solutions we provide our customers today, as well as those in development. We continue to work closely with them to improve product quality and efficiencies in their manufacturing processes, while helping lower their carbon footprints."
For example, Air Products enables cleaner transportation fuels, facilitates alternate fuel source development, and is developing a portfolio of technologies that captures carbon dioxide from power and chemical plants before it reaches the atmosphere. In addition, the potential demand for carbon capture solutions could increase demand for oxygen and the company's proprietary Ion Transport Membrane Oxygen technology. Air Products also is pursuing new opportunities in cogeneration, waste to energy, and biomass combustion.
The company also is a recognized leader in liquefied natural gas equipment, electronic materials for photovoltaics, high-efficiency burner systems for glass and steel manufacturing, performance materials for environmentally friendly coatings and adhesives, and hydrogen fueling infrastructure, with over 120 fueling stations engineered and installed throughout the world.
