PITTSBURGH, Nov. 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Ainsworth Pet Nutrition, a manufacturer of Pure Balance® – Walmart's private brand of super premium pet food - announced today that it will donate more than 260,000 meals of Pure Balance dog food to Saving Animals from Euthanasia (S.A.F.E.) Pet Rescue of St. Augustine, Florida, which was impacted by Hurricane Matthew.
S.A.F.E. Pet Rescue is comprised of three adoption centers, two in St. Augustine, and one in Hollister, Florida, located roughly 60 miles southwest St. Augustine. As Hurricane Matthew approached the Florida coast, S.A.F.E. was forced to evacuate more than 150 dogs and cats to their Hollister location, which was already housing approximately 75 animals.
Despite a lack of electricity and air conditioning and a tense and crowded environment, the organization was able to keep all of their animals safe and dry during the storm, however, the financial impact will be felt for some time.
"During times of emergency, keeping our animals safe is always our top priority, however this commitment doesn't come without cost," said Robin Kantner Nordan, Founder, S.A.F.E. Pet Rescue. "The cost of transport, emergency and veterinary fees and 24-hour staffing during the storm were significant. This generous donation from Ainsworth Pet Nutrition will ease the financial burden of feeding the 195 dogs in our care for quite some time. We are very grateful."
"At Ainsworth Pet Nutrition, our commitment to helping animals in need goes beyond doing what's right, it is engrained in who we are as an organization," said Steve Joyce, Vice President of Marketing for Ainsworth Pet Nutrition. "When we heard about S.A.F.E. Pet Rescue and what they had been through during Hurricane Matthew, we knew we needed to do something to help. We are so happy that this donation will be beneficial to the shelter and the animals in their care."
Pure Balance super-premium food for dogs and cats is available exclusively at Walmart. Each recipe is designed without any corn, wheat or soy and is prepared with carefully selected ingredients like real chicken, carrots, peas, and flaxseed. Made with natural ingredients with added vitamins and minerals, Pure Balance makes premium pet nutrition available to Walmart shoppers without a special trip to the pet store.
The donation will be delivered to the S.A.F.E. Pet Rescue within the next week.
