DENVER, Aug. 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- With the help of its business partners across the country, Apartment Investment and Management Company (Aimco) raised $483,000 during its 13th annual Aimco Cares Charity Golf Classic held July 21 at Sanctuary Golf Course in Sedalia, CO.
Presented in partnership with RE/MAX, the tournament benefits the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) which supports family members who have experienced the loss of a loved one in the line of duty; Project Sanctuary, a nonprofit that works with military personnel returning from deployments and their families to assist with the transition to civilian life; and college-bound students living in affordable housing who receive financial assistance through the Aimco Cares Opportunity Scholarship offered in partnership with the National Leased Housing Association. A portion of this year's tournament proceeds also will go to Aimco's new Give with Gusto Program that provides a financial match to hours volunteered by the company's team members who then select a local nonprofit to receive the donation.
The tournament's Diamond Sponsors, contributing $30,000 or more, were Affordable Housing Advisors, a division of Marcus & Millichap, and RentPath. Platinum Sponsors, contributing $20,000 or more, were Apartments.com, ARA Newmark, Realpage, and the law firm of Harris Winick Harris. The Gold Sponsors, contributing at least $10,000, were Advantage Fitness Products, Ballard Spahr LLP, Berkadia, Colliers International, Commonwealth Land Title Company, Criterion Brock, Cushman & Wakefield, Deacon, Emser Tile, JLL, Karndean Design Flooring, Kutak Rock LLP, Lockton, Moen, Moran & Company, Sherwin Williams, Transwestern, Tryba Architects, Wells Fargo and Wilmar.
"Military families, aspiring students and local nonprofits are the real winners of our tournament due to the generosity and community mindedness of our outstanding sponsors," said Miles Cortez, Aimco's Chief Administrative Officer. "We are so pleased that since its launch 13 years ago, The Aimco Cares Charity Golf Classic has raised nearly $4 million to support those in need. Aimco is proud to host this annual event which truly exemplifies our company's values and culture: living with gusto, valuing relationships and creating moments that matter for individuals and families across the country."
Founded in 1994, TAPS is the front-line resource for military families grieving the loss of a loved one who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. TAPS provides 24/7 comfort and care through a national network of peer-based emotional support, case work assistance, crisis intervention, and grief and trauma resources. Since it became a beneficiary of the Aimco Cares Charity Golf Classic nine years ago, TAPS will have received more than $1 million in contributions from the event.
Project Sanctuary helps military families reconnect after a soldier returns from overseas duty. Families participate in therapeutic retreats in Colorado's Rocky Mountains, and receive Project Sanctuary's assistance with housing, job placement and veterans' benefits. More than $600,000 in proceeds from the Aimco Cares Charity Golf Classic over the past five years has enabled Project Sanctuary to offer 20 week-long retreats to military families.
The Aimco Cares Opportunity Scholarship provides financial assistance to college-ready students living in affordable housing. The scholarship, administered in partnership with the National Leased Housing Association's Education Fund, already has helped 173 students pursue their dreams of a college education. More than $900,000 has been raised by the tournament for this worthy cause.
Aimco Cares is Aimco's philanthropic program that gives each team member 10 paid hours per year to apply toward a local volunteer activity. The program also provides scholarships for children of Aimco team members and short-term financial assistance to team members in crisis. This fall, Aimco Cares will promote national volunteer efforts to help veterans and their families.
