DENVER, Dec. 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- For 50 days, Apartment Investment and Management Company (Aimco) team members across the country have volunteered for Valuing Our Veterans, serving the men and women who have served our country, and honoring their families. From coast to coast, the Aimco Cares philanthropic program has sponsored more than 60 unique events from building homes for disabled veterans, to assembling care packages for troops overseas, to visiting veterans' nursing homes. Capping off the 50-day campaign, Aimco presented a $100,000 donation from proceeds raised in the annual Aimco Cares Charity Golf Classic to each of two national nonprofit military support organizations - Project Sanctuary and the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS).
Over the last nine years, Aimco has contributed more than $1 million to TAPS to support its comprehensive program of peer support and crisis intervention for military families who are grieving the loss of a loved one in the line of duty. In the last five years, Aimco has donated $620,000 to Project Sanctuary to aid its mission of helping military personnel reunite with their families after duty overseas and addressing the suicide and divorce rates so prevalent among that population.
"The Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors is so grateful for the steadfast support received from Aimco and their partners," said TAPS President and Founder Bonnie Carroll. "This heartfelt effort has had a profound impact on the way the families of America's fallen heroes are able to find hope and healing."
"With the help of Aimco, our families know that they have not been forgotten; they have a sanctuary and the needed tools to heal and find hope," said Heather Ehle, CEO and Founder of Project Sanctuary. "Project Sanctuary is grateful for not just the generous monetary gifts, but also the volunteer hours that Aimco provides. Together we are saving lives."
Since its inception, the annual golf classic has raised close to $4 million dollars for charitable causes. More than 125 golfers participated in the 2016 tournament at Sanctuary Golf Course in Sedalia, Colorado. The Diamond Sponsors, contributing $30,000 or more, were Affordable Housing Advisors, a division of Marcus & Millichap, and RentPath. Platinum Sponsors, contributing $20,000 or more, were Apartments.com, ARA Newmark, the law firm of Harris Winick Harris, and Realpage. The Gold Sponsors, contributing at least $10,000, were Advantage Fitness Products, Ballard Spahr LLP, Berkadia, Colliers International, Criterion Brock, Commonwealth Land Title Insurance Company, Cushman & Wakefield, Deacon, Emser Tile, Jones Lang LaSalle, Karndean Design Flooring, Kutak Rock LLP, Lockton, Moen, Moran & Company, Sherwin Williams, Tidwell Group, Transwestern, Tryba Architects, Wells Fargo, and Wilmar.
"We are able to make a significant contribution to our military families and veterans because of the ongoing generosity of our golf tournament sponsors," said Aimco Chief Administrative Officer Miles Cortez. "They are our partners in championing the outstanding work of Project Sanctuary and TAPS, two organizations on the front lines of supporting military families and honoring those who have served."
