AHIMA Overhauls HIcareers.com Website
Website now has interactive salary study, blogs, videos; pathfinder feature
CHICAGO, July 14 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The economy's downward spiral has lead to the merciless slashing of jobs nationwide and across most industries. Yet, the health information field is experiencing unprecedented growth and offers career opportunities that are within reach for a wide variety of job seekers. To better advance the opportunities of this emerging workforce, the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) today launched its fully revamped and interactive HIcareers.com website.
Designed both for students and professionals, this updated website is an interactive, one-stop-shop for anyone interested in learning about careers in health information. HIcareers.com highlights the benefits of starting a career in health information and provides industry updates and career advice to professionals already employed in health information-related jobs.
"Health information is a very diverse field and it is critical to have a website that provides site visitors with an impartial resource to learn more about the opportunities that exist for the health information professional," said AHIMA Board President Rita Bowen, MA, RHIA, CHPS, SSGB. "The new functionality on HIcareers.com will help visitors navigate their options to embark on, or advance a career in health information."
In the new Ask the Expert section, health information professionals and students blog about concerns and frequent questions from site visitors. In addition to advice columns, industry experts share tips and trends in the profession, while health information students can blog about day-to-day experiences from classrooms and internships.
Additionally, the new "pathfinder" quiz lets users answer simple questions about their education, interests and skills, in order to direct respondents to the health information paths that best match their backgrounds.
Other new content includes:
- Interactive charts and graphics with salary study and career path information
- Video profiles that feature students and health information professionals sharing personal stories and their reasons for choosing a career in the field
- Articles on financing your education, landing your first job, choosing a certificate or degree program, and the importance of accreditation and program recognition
- New section for educators (recruiting tips, links to other AHIMA resources)
- Ability to search for schools and programs on hicareers.com
- The latest industry news.
