The award was announced at the AHDI annual Convention & Expo in Austin, Texas.
FAIRLAWN, Ohio, Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The Medical Transcription Education Center (M-TEC), a highly-respected and ACCP-approved Medical Transcription (MT) training program, announced that Kim Buchanan, CMT, AHDI-F, was recognized by the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI) for excellence in medical transcription education. As an industry veteran, Buchanan is the spearhead of M-TEC's program development for the next generation of clinical documentation professionals, speech recognition editors and medical transcriptionists. Her 17-year career history includes serving on the Board of Directors and as Association President for AHDI.
Buchanan joined M-TEC in 2009 and has contributed her innovative approach to revising curriculum and launching new programs for transcription workforce development. While at M-TEC, she has worked closely with medical transcription outsourcing companies to ensure that students continually meet or exceed industry standards for employment and are well-prepared for a successful career in healthcare.
"Medical transcriptionists are on the front-lines of patient safety and clinical documentation integrity," mentions Buchanan. Her goal is to develop programs that emphasize the enormous impact graduates have on patient care and the healthcare industry overall.
Phil Saulnier, CEO, America's Pride, a successful medical transcription company applauds Kim's abilities and notes M-TEC's reputation for producing the most highly-trained medical transcriptionists in the field. "We have hired 65 M-TEC graduates over the years and at this point, we don't even test M-TEC grads because we know they are outstanding students," Saulnier states.
Exceptional students are a hallmark of M-TEC and one of the organization's current students, Amanda Taylor, also received an AHDI award in Austin. Taylor was named the 2010 "Rising Star" for her outstanding essay on the important role of medical transcriptionists and editors in healthcare delivery.
"M-TEC takes pride in being ahead of the curve in training the next generation of clinical documentation knowledge workers through advanced curriculums that anticipate the needs of the industry," says Sean Carroll, Chief Executive Officer of parent company Webmedx. "These awards signify that we are on track with our vision for the future and the next generation of healthcare programs."
