Agora Cyber Charter School Now Enrolling Students for 2013-2014 Academic Year
WAYNE, Pa., April 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Agora Cyber Charter School (Agora), a state-accredited, public cyber school, has opened enrollment for students in grades K-12 for the 2013–2014 school year. Agora accepts students from across the state of Pennsylvania and uses the K¹²® curriculum, offering students an exceptional individualized learning experience, with synchronous and asynchronous online classes. Agora is built on strong relationships – among classmates, between teacher and student and teacher and parent – that help the school community connect with one another in neighborhoods throughout the state.
To help parents and children learn more about the program, Agora will host multiple events in communities across the state, as well as online information sessions. Families will have an opportunity to speak with school representatives and learn about how so many children succeed with Agora.
Families can find more information on these events, as well as directions on how to enroll, by visiting www.K12.com/Agora.
At Agora, teachers provide instruction, guidance, and support, and interact daily with students and parents via e-mail, web-based classrooms, online discussions, phone, and face-to-face meetings. Each enrolled family is also assigned a Family Coach, a position that is unique to Agora. Family Coaches help navigate the day-to-day duties and responsibilities that come with online learning, and assist in creating strong, local Agora communities throughout the state by organizing numerous field trips and school activities. Additionally, the Family Coaches are the first points of contact for students and families; they offer non-academic support so that Agora teachers are able to provide more academic-focused attention to their students.
Students who enroll in Agora receive the award-winning academic program developed by K12 Inc., which includes engaging web-based lessons along with instructional materials — books, videos, CDs, and other hands-on tools and resources — which are shipped directly to each student's home. Agora provides courses in English/language arts, math, science, history, music, and art for students in grades K-8, while the high school program offers students more than 150 core, elective, AP, and world language courses. High school students participate in block scheduling so they can focus on fewer courses each semester. Agora students are active in extracurricular activities, including the school's National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society chapters, as well as sports teams affiliated with their local school districts. Agora students also have access to a national network of 100+ clubs that cover a wide variety of interests like Lego, chess, Spanish, American Girls®, photography, guitar, debate and flamenco dance.
Agora also offers an innovative blended learning program for students through its Philadelphia-based Learning Center. In this blended program, area students in grades 3-12 receive face-to-face support from school staff, as well as opportunities for increased student collaboration and remediation.
