The company is upgrading one of its Heidelberg presses at its Indianapolis plant from a conventional curing press to a UV press to better align with the requirements of its consumer packaged goods customers. AGI-Shorewood is also upgrading its current UV press at its plant in Hendersonville, N.C., to improve capability and manufacturing reliability for the fast-turn requirements of its customers in the entertainment and media business. These investments will improve the capability of both plants to supply their target markets, according to Mark Caines, CEO of its North American operations.
In addition, AGI-Shorewood's plant in Melrose Park, Ill., will focus on manufacturing specialty packaging and setup boxes for media and consumer packaged goods, including rigid boxes, plastics packaging and highly embellished standard board products, as well as providing fulfillment services. The facility will continue making paper and paperboard products, but the company is shifting a portion of Melrose Park's standard print production to Indianapolis and Hendersonville.
"We're optimizing our business to better serve the evolving needs of our customers and to position AGI-Shorewood for long-term growth," Caines says. "To that end, we're creating centers of excellence for the products and services we offer by focusing individual facilities on product markets."
