Aggregate Industries US Twin Cities Region Participates in Holcim Centennial
Advances Commitment to Community Involvement and Sustainability through Local Projects
WALTHAM, Mass., June 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Aggregate Industries US (AIUS) a Holcim Group Company, is marking the 100-year anniversary of its parent company in 2012. AIUS will celebrate this milestone with Together for Communities, a year-long initiative in which AIUS employees lead local volunteer projects.
"The Centennial is an excellent opportunity to celebrate the Company's values of strength, performance and passion," said Bernard Terver, president and chief executive officer of Aggregate Industries US. "In planning and executing these projects, the Twin Cities Region has shown initiative and a deep knowledge of their communities, two values that are integral to our mission. Through the dedication of our employees, Holcim aims to provide the equivalent of 100 years' worth of service to these communities worldwide."
AIUS Twin Cities Region has five events planned focused on sustainability and the needs of local children. In May, employees participated in tree plantings at two locations and the restoration of Cherokee Bluffs Region Park. This summer AIUS Twin Cities Region is volunteering at the 2012 Mississippi River Challenge, a two-day, 39-mile paddling event to raise funds and awareness for a cleaner, healthier river. Employees will work at the paddler 'take-out' point at the AIUS Nelson Sand & Gravel site. They will also assist canoeists with the loading of their canoes onto vehicles and trailers, load tents and other equipment into trucks. AIUS is also partnering with Feed My Starving Children to provide meals to malnourished children globally. Employees will hand-pack dry meals that are specially prepared for malnourished children. These meals are then shipped to nearly 70 countries around the world.
Together for Communities builds on the Holcim mission and extends the values that are essential to creating the highest quality products. Holcim Ltd hopes to engage as many of its 80,000 worldwide employees as possible to volunteer for one day in their community. Because Holcim recognizes employees have unique knowledge of their communities, each project is employee-led and geared toward local needs. Though each volunteer activity is driven by local needs, the initiative is a global one.
