Aggregate Industries Reopens Swampscott Quarry

ROCKVILLE, Md., Aug. 16, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Aggregate Industries US, a Holcim Group Company, (www.aggregate-us.com) announced today that it will reopen its Swampscott quarry located in Swampscott and Salem, Massachusetts on August 17, 2011.

Approximately 15 jobs have been restored as a result of the reopening of the Swampscott Quarry.  

"We have been working with Aggregate Industries since 1994," said Gene Bardon, chairman, Earth Removal Advisory Committee, "We've had a very good, strong relationship with the management and employees and were disappointed when operations were halted at the end of 2009. The decision to reopen the quarry in Swampscott is a good thing for the community by bringing business back to the local area."

This 100-year old hard rock quarry has been inactive since the end of 2009.  The economic downturn the region faced in 2009 was the basis for the decision to place the quarry in an inactive state.
