FORT WORTH, Texas, Nov. 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Tomorrow, Texas A&M University School of Law will open its Low Income Tax Clinic, under the direction of established Dallas-Fort Worth tax controversy attorney Bob Probasco.
Texas A&M's Low Income Tax Clinic can assist clients with numerous tax controversy situations, including if the IRS has challenged a tax return, if an individual owes back taxes and cannot afford to pay them, or if the IRS is threatening to garnish a taxpayer's wages.
"Hearing from the IRS terrifies most people," Probasco said. "They find our tax system difficult to navigate by themselves but cannot afford quality professional help. It's a problem not only in Fort Worth but also throughout Texas. Our students in the clinic, with the resources and network of Texas A&M behind us, will help make the system work better and get better results for taxpayers. When taxpayers are well-represented, that also makes the system work better for the IRS and the Tax Court."
Given his extensive and accomplished career in the niche area of IRS tax controversy, Probasco brings unmatched experience to the clinic. His hybrid background includes accounting with a "Big Four" firm and representing clients on tax controversies, as a partner in a large DFW firm and as a solo practitioner, at all stages of the tax process, from audits and administrative appeals through litigation before the U.S. Tax Court and the U.S. Court of Federal Claims.
"We are thrilled to be adding the Low Income Tax Clinic as another opportunity for our students to learn necessary legal skills and the ethic of serving those who would otherwise go without legal representation," said Luz Herrera, Texas A&M Law's Associate Dean for Experiential Education. "Bob Probasco brings a wealth of experience and contacts that will benefit our students and the Texas community."
This clinic is funded in part by a grant from the Low Income Taxpayer Clinics (LITC) program, administered by the Office of the Taxpayer Advocate at the IRS.
