AFSCME to Rally at DTE Energy on Sunday
DETROIT, March 8, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Albert Garrett, President of Michigan Council 25 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), AFL-CIO, issued the following statement:
"Michigan AFSCME Council 25, our affiliated local unions, and our supporters will conduct a rally on Sunday, March 10, 2013, at 12:00 Noon, outside the DTE Energy Building at Michigan and Third in Detroit," stated Garrett. "We are protesting Governor Snyder's ill-considered plan to appoint an Emergency Manager for Detroit, and the failure of corporate entities - including DTE Energy - to pay the City of Detroit the taxes and fees they owe. If these deadbeat debtors were to pay what they owe, Detroit would not be facing a fiscal crisis today, and not even Governor Snyder would dare to suggest an emergency manager."
Michigan AFSCME Council 25 represents more than 60,000 public workers across Michigan. AFSCME International represents 1.6 million public workers nationwide.
