AFSCME to Demonstrate Against Legal Aid and Defender
DETROIT, June 7 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Albert Garrett, President of Michigan Council 25 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), AFL-CIO, issued the following statement:
"Staff Attorneys employed by Legal Aid and Defender and represented by AFSCME Local 2095 will demonstrate on Monday, June 07, 2010, at 12:00 Noon outside Legal Aid and Defender's offices at 613 Abbott, Detroit," stated Garrett.
"The Staff Attorneys organized with AFSCME two years ago, and are still without a contract," continued Garrett. "The demonstration calls for a fair contract, and equitable wage increase, and a new focus on providing improved and increased legal services to the clients. The Staff Attorneys have not received an increase in five years, despite significant funding increases and two raises and a bonus to Legal Aid and Defender management during the last two years."
Albert Garrett is also Michigan Vice President for AFSCME International. Michigan AFSCME Council 25 represents more than 90,000 public workers across Michigan.
