Afrostream Scales Video Streaming Service with Playback Technology from castLabs
BERLIN, September 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
castLabs, a digital video technology and services company, today announced it has collaborated with Afrostream, a subscription-based video on demand (SVOD) service specializing in the digital distribution of films and series accessible across a wide range of devices. castLabs has supplied its content delivery solutions including mobile and browser playback technology as well as its digital rights management (DRM) licensing service to power secure video streaming for the Afrostream service.
Afrostream is the "Netflix® for African-American, African and Caribbean content" primarily serving the African diaspora in Europe, North America, Latin America and Africa. The site boasts an international library of 1,000+ hours of premium content, subtitled or dubbed according to the local market.
Customers can enjoy Afrostream content through desktop browsers, smart TVs as well as iOS and Android applications. To help deliver its on-demand service across these screens, Afrostream has selected castLabs to provide its DASH Everywhere browser player and Video Player SDKs for mobile devices. castLabs has also supplied its cloud-based multi-DRM licensing service, DRMtoday, to enable protected playback of premium studio content. These technologies enable Afrostream to securely stream both MPEG-DASH and HLS video to smartphones, tablets, browsers, and most recently, set-top-boxes.
"Building an audience is the key success factor for emerging streaming services, and we're delighted that our solutions help Afrostream's unique offering to easily scale-up as it extends into new regions and delivers across more devices," said Michael Stattmann, Managing Director of castLabs. "Afrostream's ability to provide its extensive catalog of entertainment across a wide range of browsers and consumer devices makes it easy for customers to enjoy their content, and is an essential part of why its service is thriving."
"Castlabs has been a tremendous accelerator for Afrostream to quickly distribute our content on multiple platforms, in the most secure environment, with the best quality of experience possible," said Ludovic Bostral, Co-Founder and CTO of Afrostream.
castLabs will be exhibiting at IBC in Amsterdam from 9-13 September 2016 where it will be demonstrating its video playback and DRM solutions at booth 14.L02.
