Africa-South America Forum Provides Delegations a Chance to Strengthen Partnership

MALABO, Equatorial Guinea, Nov. 28, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Delegations from 55 different countries came together to further the strategic Africa-South America (ASA) partnership at the 4th annual ASA Forum in the Sipopo Conference Center. They focused on developing methods to implement specific projects and achieve tangible results that would benefit both regions, and on the last day, November 25, they presented their final statement to the assembly.

Micha Ondo Bile, Executive Chairman of the African Union, gave a closing speech, highlighting the success of the event. "The work of the Fourth Meeting of Ministers has concluded successfully in an atmosphere of fraternity and responsibility, marked by the momentum of strategic partnership of Africa-South America," said Guinea's Minister of Foreign Affairs. "The final report and the joint ministerial statement of the results are a reflection of that great work environment, which is required to boost the strategic cooperation of ASA."

Among additional participants, the event included the ASA Representative for Africa, President of the African Union Commission, Jean Ping, Pastor Micha Ondo Bile, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Francophone Affairs and honorary guest, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Antonio Patriota.

President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo addressed the officials, stating that the forum is part of the preparations for the Third Summit of Heads of State of ASA, "an association of countries willing to defend their political, economic and socio-cultural interests, in the current world order dominated by the selfishness of different world powers." He also stressed the importance of promoting security and economic development through a strong partnership.

The ASA summit will be held next year, March 15, 2012, at the Sipopo Conference Center, Equatorial Guinea's newest facility for hosting large-scale international events.
