COLUMBUS, Ga., Oct. 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Aflac, the leading provider of voluntary insurance at the work site in the United States, announced today that the company has been recognized for the 10th time by Black Enterprise Magazine as one of the 40 Best Companies for Diversity. According to Black Enterprise, Aflac merits inclusion on the list by demonstrating best practices through the company's diverse representation within its employee base, senior management ranks, corporate board and supplier pools.
"At Aflac, we believe that maintaining a diverse workforce is the best way to succeed in a diverse marketplace," Aflac Chairman and CEO Dan Amos said. "We are proud and pleased that Black Enterprise has selected Aflac for this noteworthy recognition for the 10th time, as it validates our efforts to acknowledge the benefits of living among such a uniquely diverse population."
In compiling this year's list, the Black Enterprise research team sent surveys to more than 1,000 of the largest publicly traded companies and global companies with significant U.S. operations. This year, Black Enterprise gained support from the Executive Leadership Council, the pre-eminent organization of current and former CEOs, board members, senior executives and leading entrepreneurs, in producing its list.
Aflac's statistics regarding diversity include a workforce that is 67 percent female. In addition, 43 percent of Aflac's employees are minorities, while 34 percent are minority women. The company also notes that 22 percent of its officers are minorities, while 28 percent are women. Aflac joins Coca-Cola and Southern Company as the only Georgia-based companies on the 2015 list.
